The cross country team consists of 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls. The cross country season begins with training in late August. Competition takes place in meets during September and October. The Divine Child parish bulletin publishes a notice in early or mid August alerting parents when and where sign-up for cross country takes place.
All students who want to run and have their CYO medical forms and CYO sport fee can join the team (there aren't try-outs: if you can stand the practice schedule, you're on the team!). The team has daily practice runs (building up to 4 miles/day), which are longer than the distances at meets. Meets for 5th/6th graders are 1.2 miles. Meets for 7th and 8th graders are 2 miles. Students borrow cross country uniforms for the meets and return them at the end of the season. Parents purchase suitable shoes and take turns providing drinks and snacks at meets. Parents drive or car-pool to the meets.
